They mature more quickly, are said to be more responsible and do better at school. Now media-savvy girls are putting another one over the boys by leading the digital communications revolution. After one of the most comprehensive studies of the effect on children of the explosion in media choices of the past 15 years, the British regulator Ofcom said girls aged 12 to 15 are more likely than boys to have a mobile phone, use the internet, listen to the radio and read newspapers or magazines. Only when it comes to playing computer and console games do boys overtake girls.

Do the boys and girls that you know or those in your household follow this trend? Is this now following through to adulthood? Something to think about when we are trying to get the message across and deciding what media outlet to use.

1. When initiating a response from your readers make sure that your web server can cope with a volume response. It seems that MarketingSherpa Awards failed in this respect and many could not cast their votes. When this was realised, voters were redirected to another server that looked very unlike the original site (and very ugly!).
2. Double check that all candidates for any voting list are eligible before voting commences. PR Tools 4U fell victim of this failure to be rigorous by the Marketing Sherpa Awards Team. I only found this out when checking out the new voting site (see1. above) and PR Tools 4U was no longer on the list. I was not informed of this until I questioned the Awards team as to what was going on; they then replied that the blog had to have started before the start of 2006. (My first live post was 15 January 2006!). There is, as yet, no explanation on their website as to why the voting lists have changed since the start of voting. I assume other sites were in the same boat as there appears to be several blank lines in the voting list. Not a good way to inspire confidence in the process.
3. (This ones for me) Don't ask your readers to to do something unless you are doubly sure that you are not wasting their time and interest.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to those of you who wanted to vote for PR Tools 4U Story closed.

marketing_sherpa_logo PR Tools 4U has reached the final voting list for an award in the PR Blog category of the MarketingSherpa Awards.

Its great to have got on the list, so go Vote for us now. I am tempted to use the old election slogan "Vote early, Vote often!".

Seriously, I've learnt a lot since starting the site and hope that it may have given some readers some interest if not inspiration for their own work. If you vote 'excellent' for PR Tools 4U – thank you. Ray Collins
